Feminist Fork: Growing up Chinese-American in the Midwest

Growing up Chinese-American in the heart of the Midwest isn't easy. Carlina Duan, a Chinese-American in Ann Arbor, Michigan struggled with how much of her Chinese heritage she really wanted in her life. She resisted paying attention in Chinese School, as well as speaking any Chinese dialects and eating Chinese cuisines. This month on the Feminist Fork, Carlina takes the mic and tells how amid the push/pull of Chinese dumplings and American chicken nuggets, she found out how to connect with her Chinese roots, how to navigate her school's cafeteria, and most importantly, how to trust her own unique tastes.
