Big news in the world of food and feminism this week!
Jen Agg, owner of The Black Hoof in Toronto and all-around badass, has organized a conference called Kitchen Bitches: Smashing the Patriarchy One Plate at a Time. The conference was organized after Kate Burnham spoke up last month about the sexual harassment she experienced while she was the pastry chef at Weslodge. Indeed, Agg was already fed up with the bro mentality of the Toronto food scene. With that said, THANK YOU, JEN! We’ll be there in spirit! (Now Toronto)
We are what we eat. It turns out that plankton—who are at the bottom of the food chain, I might add—accidentally eat plastic debris while feasting on algae. So guess what we’re indirectly ingesting? Mmmm. (Grist)
